Well with news this great we just had to blog about it !
The Irish Museum of Modern Art agreed to host an exhibition sponsored and designed by Yellowstone.ie, not only that but having run since the National Day of Commemoration on 12th July, now the National Museum at Collins Barracks has agreed to host it for a further 3 months – or maybe more. Honoured and Chuffed.
The exhibition was based around Sebastian Barry’s book, ‘A Long Long Way’ and commissioned by Dublin City Libraries as part of an exhibition built on the archives of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers; gifted to the libraries. It first ran in 2007 at Dublin City Library in Pearse Street, as part of the Europe wide programme ‘One City, One Book’; and was very well received by hundreds of visitors to the city.
In the interim, a near personal loss by one of the Yellowstone board prompted the idea of a second sponsored showing. “It was only in the throws of nearly losing dad that I became aware of the role he had played in progressing the individual rights of the ordinary soldier; something we felt should be marked in some way”
So, there we have it, an exhibition about the lives of ordinary soldiers (in WWI) dedicated to a quietly extraordinary soldier surviving through to the Millennium – ‘Lest We Forget’
Below is the video that supported the exhibition:-
Note: (we’re not deaf ! intro music is appropriate for a large exhibition space)
